Dear
Student(s), Write these question answers in your note book:
1.
What is weathering?
The breakdown of rock caused by rainwater and temperature changes is called weathering.
2. What has caused the weathering of the statue made from carved limestone ?
The acid in rainwater over many years has caused the weathering of statue.
3. a What is chemical weathering?
The breakdown of rock that is caused by chemical reaction is called chemical weathering.
b Give one example of how it can happen.
Chemical weathering takes place when weak acid present in rain causes a slow chemical reaction that eats away rock generally limestone that contains calcium carbonate .
5. Describe the process of physical weathering caused by rainwater freezing in cracks.
When water changes to ice the expansion can produce very large forces. Rain water gets into the cracks in the surface of rock. When the temperature drops enough, the rain water freezes to produce the force of expansion that can break rocks to carry the process of physical weathering.
6. a What is meant by biotic weathering?
The breakdown of rocks that is caused by plants and animals is called biotic weathering.
7. b Give one example of biotic weathering.
The attack on the rocks caused by the acid made by the animals like limpets is one of the examples of biotic weathering.
